The End Of Niche Cable Stations
Let’s take a small ride back to the cable television past. We need not go too far, but let’s go back about 15 or 20 years. Can you remember what cable TV channels were like then as compared to now?
Back then, most channels where part of a network that specialized on a particular niche subject. If you were interested in watching a particular topic of program then all you had to do as switch to that network and find the particular channel interesting to you.
For example, Bravo and A&E both focused on the fine arts, and nearly every piece of programming that was broadcast on these networks actually pertained to that. This is no longer the case, as plenty of reality TV shows and segments focusing on other areas of interest have emerged here.
Then there is the music channels that used to play nonstop music all day and prided themselves on this fact, but sadly again this can no longer be said of either MTV or VH1.
But sadly, this can no longer be said of either of them. They both have more things going on other than the music videos that they were once famous for.
On both MTV and VH1, there are a ton of reality TV shows. Whether they’re dating shows like Rock of Love, or reality shows that chronicle the lives of people like MTV’s Jersey Shore, it seems like everything on both of these networks is also reality TV.
All said there are still some channels that actually do what they are supposed to do, Channels such as The Game Show Network, which actually shows game shows for the majority of the time. Nevertheless, even this one as begun to be affected by the reality TV disease as a new series plans to follow the Newlywed Game host.
I am certain that I would not be the only person who would love to see the return of what used to be good cable TV scheduling.
Besides television, the writer additionally frequently pens articles on heat pump thermostats and the White Rodgers thermostat manual.
