Metallica: There Is No End In Sight For The Band That Made Metal
Metallica is known as the band that made a name for metal and made it what it is today. Anthrax, also, played a role in this, but Metallica is remembered more, today, for this feat. Some; however, would completely disagree with this accomplishment, but neither here nor there, Metallica is, and always will be, metal.
Another band, of the 70s and 80s, that made a fairly big impact on metal is Megadeth. Dave Mustaine; however, learned what he knows today, and perfected it, as a member of Metallica. He played with Metallica when the originated, prior to his career as lead guitarist and singer for Megadeth. He only left Metallica, in fact, because him and Lars had a serious argument that got him booted from the band. Therefore, Megadeth does not play the role in metal that some believe.
Metallica has made a sick amount of money from random earnings and record sales of every album they have released. The band makes money when they tour, but they end up dealing with quite a bit of chaos at the same time. There is no secret that Metallica parties while on the road, hard enough to cause problems within the band. The loss of Cliff Burton, many though, would have sobered the band up. Unfortunately it had the opposite effect. By the 90s the band was constantly at odds with each other and they found it nearly impossible to find and keep a good bassist.
Regardless, Metallica has been, and continues to be, one of the most successful bands of all time. Metallica has 9 Grammy Awards, the Kerrang Hall of Fame Award, 4 Billboard Awards, 2 MTV Video Music Awards, and 3 American Music Awards. This number of awards is no small feat for a metal band, but Metallica did it with grace. In the 80s metal was something parents did not want their kids listening to, as they believed it to be damaging to the soul. This did not; however, stop kids from doing everything they could to get their hands on Metallica’s albums. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are just two of the favorite songs from those times. Kids from the 80s can sing these words verbatim.
Putting all of the negativity to the side, Metallica has done well for them. Metallica has a passion for what they do and it comes out every time they perform — live or recorded. If you have not seen them perform live, you truly are missing out. The amount of energy this band exudes is astonishing.
